Naughty Pine ~ Pine Tar & Charcoal Soap (Pre-order) ~ Pine, Patchouli, Cedar and Copaiba Essential Oils
These bars are still curing and will be ready to ship 11/28.
Have you been naughty or nice this year? Do you listen to what you’ve been told to do or do you have a mischievous, defiant spirit that might get you into a bit of trouble now and then? If you’re one of the naughty souls, this bar was made for you. It’s a sumptuous and sinfully rich bar that contains 100% pure pine tar and activated charcoal to represent the lumps of coal naughty children were threatened they would receive around the holidays.
In Germanic folklore, children were warned of the Krampus, a half goat/half demon entity Who punishes misbehaving children by leaving coals, sticks and stones instead of the gifts bestowed by St. Nicholas. In Italy, La Befana, an old witch, would leave sweets and gifts for the well-behaved children and edible coal (dark, hard candies) for the naughty ones.
A brief history of pine tar.
Pine tar has been used for thousands of years in many applications including skin care as it offers antipruritic (anti-itch), anti‐inflammatory and anti-fungal properties that help soothe irritated skin.
Its production is believed to date back to as early as early as 540–380 BCE with the Vikings who used the viscous liquid to seal their ships, churches and structures.
On its own, pine tar has a very distinct woodsy, resinous aroma but I decided to add cedar, pine, juniper and frankincense essential oils to bring out the top notes just a bit more. To me, it’s reminiscent of a piney Vetiver which is one of my favorite essential oils.
Ingredients: Olive oil, coconut oil, cocoa butter, shea butter, sweet almond oil, castor oil, sodium lactate, sodium hydroxide (lye), distilled moon water, pine tar, activated charcoal, essential oils of pine needle, juniper berry, patchouli, & cedar and copaiba.
Approximately 5 oz.
What is Cold Process Soap?
Cold process soap is made from scratch with lye and oils, giving full control over every ingredient, but it requires lye safety precautions and a 4–6 week cure before the bars are ready while melt and pour soap is pre-made soap base that is melted, customized, re-molded and is ready to use the same day.
Unlike melt and pour, which relies on a pre-made commercial base, cold process lets the maker hand-select skin-nourishing oils, customize fatty acid profiles, and avoid synthetic detergents or extra surfactants often baked into commercial bases. it requires careful calculation and measuring of every ingredient to make a successful batch.
Cold process soap makes for a harder, denser bar that lasts longer in the shower.
